Personal Data Audit

Here at Privacy Consultants, we start every relationship with a data protection audit. An audit will identify any deficiencies in relation to your data protection policies, procedures, records and controls process. A compliance audit will assist you to identify any gaps or weakness in your organisation.

The Data Protection Commissioner, (Helen Dixon), has the power to conduct scheduled audits on any data controller or data processor operating in Ireland to assess and ensure compliance with data protection law. She can also carry out ‘on the spot’ or unscheduled inspections and formal investigations in response to specific complaints.

Audits can be targeted to focus on a particular issue or can be more general in nature. A broad range of organisations are selected for audit each year and those audited are listed in the Data Protection Commissioner’s annual reports. If your firm handles personal data, you could be selected for audit.
